Mayor: Police who don’t march in parade are missing an opportunity (CNYCentral).

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh is aware of the fact that some Syracuse police officers will skip marching in the St. Patrick’s Parade. He is also aware of the decline in officers who volunteered to work the parade route and the fact that the department had to schedule staff.

The Mayor expressed confidence in his police chief and rank and file officers.

In a statement, The Mayor said, “Chief Buckner and members of our police department have tough jobs to do, and I appreciate their work. Marching in the parade is a great way for police officers to connect with the community, so it is a missed opportunity for those who choose not to participate.”
